ABOUT THE DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Michael Basaraba is the Director of Photography at Ankura Films, bringing a sharp technical eye and a deep sensitivity to light, composition, and visual storytelling. As DP, Michael is responsible for translating the director's vision into every frame—making deliberate choices about camera placement, movement, and exposure that shape the emotional tone of each scene.
His strength lies in his ability to read a story and find the visual language that serves it best. Whether working with natural light or building a controlled setup from scratch, Michael approaches each shot with intention—understanding that the way an image is captured is just as important as what is being captured.
CRAFT & APPROACH
Michael brings a strong command of camera systems, lensing, and lighting design to every production. He understands how focal length, depth of field, and color temperature interact to create mood and meaning—and he uses that knowledge to support the emotional beats of every scene rather than distract from them.
On set, Michael works closely with the director to ensure visual continuity and cohesion across each project. His collaborative approach and calm under pressure make him an anchor for the entire crew, helping productions move efficiently without sacrificing the quality of the image.
